The Buffo Chapel

THE BUFFO CHAPEL

It is located in “Los Quebrachitos”, 7 km (seven kilometres) away from Unquillo city, Córdoba.

The Chapel was built by Guido Buffo. He was born in Italy. He arrived to Argentina in 1910, he studied Arts in Venecia and Paris. Besides, he spoke many languages and he was an architect, a scientific, an astronomer and a musician.

He married in 1914 in Córdoba, with Leonor Allende. He had a daughter with her.

In 1931, when his wife died, he was very depressed and affected, and decided to show his love, but he didn’t start the building until the early dead of his daughter, in 1941.

He began the construction in 1941 and almost ten years later, in 1950 he finished. He built this Chapel like a monument for his wife and his daughter after they died.

It took Buffo nine years to build the Chapel.

THE RESTORATION OF CHAPEL

The restoration began in May of 2014, and it was made in three parts:

After working in the external part of the dome, the action was focused on the painting and murals of the interior, and finally the tower.

DESCRIPTION OF THE CHAPEL

The chapel has a circular shape and it is dome has an oval shape. Besides, it has a door of wood. On the right there is a bell tower

The entire chapel was made of adobe.  Inside you can see the paintings from the Renaissance era, and a Foucault Pendulum, that it was used to detect and measure earthquakes.

Guido Buffo died in 1960, and is buried in the Chapel. Gritten by Lucas Sifuentes and Ailen Bertello.
